Diane first saw Chris' amazingly unique art while walking around an art show about a decade ago. Immediately transfixed by the way the light danced on the "canvas" (I say "canvas" loosely, because Chris works solely on metal... one of the most interesting canvases I've ever seen!), Diane picked up some of his work.
Everyone has seen airbrushed work, but unless you've seen Chris' work, you haven't reeeeally seen airbrushing. Chris uses his own techniques to bring out more depth on the metal "canvases" that he spray paints on. The result is a piece that not only reacts to the light, but even seems to have a light of its own! You really just have to see it.
From Chris' website: “I favor metal because I can combine a form of sculpture as the foundation for my expression and have found a way to enhance my ability to communicate emotions more intently. All art should inspire and evoke emotion….Art should be something you can actually feel.”
We have been watching Chris' career since that first meeting, and to say that it has taken off is quite the understatement. Chris' popularity has soared! Chris was the winner of the "New Movement Award" at the first annual ARTV Awards. Since then, DeRubeis' art has been nationally recognized as "The Father of Conceptual Movement."
